Translating Mixed Media Artwork into Glass Sculpture
Amy Wickersham came to us with an interest in exploring glass: bringing ideas from her existing work into a new material.
She shared images of past pieces spanning textile-based collages and sculptural forms, which became the foundation for a small series of glass works.
These references included both layered, collage-like compositions and more structural forms. Each glass piece was directly informed by these sources: carrying over proportion, balance, and geometric relationships into a new medium.
Amy was actively involved throughout, participating in design decisions, reviewing iterations, and spending time on-site during elements of the production process.
We worked through multiple rounds of refinement, adjusting scale and form to ensure each piece felt true to the original work while functioning successfully in glass.
The final series consists of three standalone glass sculptures, each based on specific pieces from her practice.
The work was produced using a combination of:
Hand-sculpted solid glass
Blown glass for hollow forms
Each approach was selected based on the needs of the form, translating her structural compositions into finished glass objects.
We often collaborate with artists whose primary work exists in other materials.
Starting from existing artwork of any medium, we help translate those ideas into exhibition-ready glass pieces through a collaborative, iterative process.
